What happened with the floods
Heavy rain and flooding hit parts of Nepal in 2026, and many travellers have asked us whether Chitwan is still worth visiting. Here is how it looks from Sauraha.
Rhino Lodge & Hotel was not much affected. The Rapti river area, where our river activities and the jungle tower stay are based, was affected for only about two days, and it is back to normal now.
Is it safe to visit Chitwan now?
The park is open, the roads are good and the activities are running, so you can plan your trip as normal. No visit to a national park is completely risk free, and weather can change, so a few habits help:
- Follow your guide’s instructions on every safari, walk and canoe ride.
- Stay away from the riverbank after heavy rain.
- Message us a day before you travel and we will tell you the situation as it is that day.
The monsoon: what changes
Chitwan’s rainy season runs roughly from June to September. The jungle is green and the air is humid. Heavy rain can raise the rivers and pause river and jungle activities for a day or two, which is why we rebook guests instead of cancelling them.
If you travel in the rainy season, bring a light rain jacket, quick-drying clothes and insect repellent.
If an activity is paused or your plans change
Rhino Lodge & Hotel offers rebooking if conditions change. The exact terms depend on your booking, so message us on WhatsApp and we will go through them with you. You can see our rooms and the jungle tower night stay on our website.
