An elephant safari is a guided wildlife ride on the back of a trained elephant, led by an experienced mahout, into the tall grasslands and forest of Chitwan near Sauraha. Seated in a saddle above the grass, you move slowly and quietly through terrain that vehicles and walkers can’t easily cross — and the elephant’s calm presence often lets you approach grazing wildlife, especially one-horned rhinos, more closely than on foot. Best time & how to reach Sauraha
Best time: The elephant safari runs during daylight hours, typically in the early morning or late afternoon when animals are most active. October to March offers the coolest, most comfortable conditions for viewing wildlife, while the monsoon season (June to September) is warmer, wetter, and greener, with fewer crowds.
