In Sauraha

The Rapti river runs along the edge of the village. Walk to the bank in the evening for the sunset and the birds. A guided walk through a Tharu village shows traditional longhouses, painted walls and everyday life, and includes the Tharu Cultural Museum. A small museum fee may apply.

The Elephant Breeding Centre

The Elephant Breeding Centre is part of the first afternoon in our safari packages, together with the Tharu village walk. See the 2 nights 3 days package.

Bishazari Lake

Bishazari Lake is a wetland alive with birds. We run a half-day cycling trip of four to five hours from Sauraha through community forest, on flat dirt roads suitable for beginners and families. It starts from $30 per person, with a small community or wetland fee at the lake. See cycling in Chitwan.

What to skip if you are short on time

If you only have two nights, spend your time on the jeep safari, the canoe ride, the jungle walk and one cultural evening. The Chitwan travel guide explains how to fit them in.
