October to March: the comfortable season

Most visitors come between October and March. The days are pleasant, animals move around often, and the weather suits long mornings in a jeep or on foot. Our packages are built around this season, and we recommend it for first visits. If you are planning a short trip, see our 2 nights 3 days Chitwan safari package.

February to May: best for wildlife sightings

As the dry season goes on, the tall grass shrinks and the animals gather near water. That makes February to May the best months for sightings, particularly for a jeep safari. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to be out.

June to September: the rainy season

The rainy season turns the jungle green and the park quiet. Heavy rain can raise the rivers and pause river and jungle activities for a day or two. If you travel then, bring a light rain jacket and quick-drying clothes, and read our current update on whether Chitwan is safe and open.

Best time for birdwatching

Migrant birds are here from November to February, and March and April bring breeding plumage. Early morning is best in every season. Our bird watching tour goes out at that hour.

Best time for a jungle tower stay

Our jungle tower night stay works best in the dry season, from October to November and from February to May.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best month to visit Chitwan?

October to March is the most comfortable, and February to May is the best for wildlife sightings. If you can only pick one window, choose November to March.

Is Chitwan worth visiting during the monsoon?

Yes, if you are flexible. The jungle is green and the park is quiet, but heavy rain can pause river and jungle activities for a day or two. We offer rebooking if conditions change.

When is the best time to see rhinos in Chitwan?

One-horned rhinos are commonly seen on jeep safaris, canoe rides and jungle walks through the year. They are easiest to spot from February to May, when the grass is shorter.

When can I see a tiger in Chitwan?

Tigers live in the park but are rarely seen in any month, and nobody can promise a sighting.

What should I pack for Chitwan?

Neutral-coloured clothes, insect repellent and comfortable shoes in every season, and a rain jacket from June to September.
